Being responsible for this website I would like to introduce myself:

My name is Thomas Harst (contact  ) and, as you surely assumed, I am fascinated of Afghan Hounds. At the beginning of the seventies I had the first contact with this breed. Although many years passed by, I still remember exactly the impression these animals left on me. Right at this moment I was certain not to live without an Afghan Hound anymore. Unfortunately, innumerable attempts to convince my parents of the acquisition of an Afghan Hound failed. Rather I received sufficiently opportunity to study the life of smaller domestic animals (turtle, hamster, hare etc..) in detail. Thus many dogless years passed by, until finally in summer 1992 Elia Black of Meadow Valley came into my life.

Elia was a black bitch, sired by Imrah Indra van het Martinihaim, whose roots went back on the breeding of Ch. Mecca's Falstaff to Ch. Wita Rosie van de Oranje Manege. Her dam, Belizah of Meadow Valley, combined well-known "Coastwind" and "von Katwiga" bloodlines. From her relationship Elia received two outstanding characteristics, the afghan-typical springy gait and an enormous interest in hare-hunting. The latter was probably decisive for Elia; if she had the choice, she prefered the racetrack to the show ring at any time, not considering for a moment. To the satisfaction of dog and owner, which still is the firm conviction, that an Afghan Hound has to control even both, contributed the finally found and for many years practiced compromise, which combined exhibition and racing/coursing. Elia's litter, two black males, arrived on September 23th, 1994 sired by Ch. Quirin von der Irminsul . Like her mother before, the two boys were very interested in hare-hunting. Finally, Elia enjoyed her earned retirement until her death in summer of 2004.

In 1995 Elia got a playmate with "Tara" Kaboom Axplosion of Meadow Valley (Ch. Buena Vista Khabardar - Ch. D'Just In Time el Aramis). Tara was an unbelievable curious and lively bitch, keeping the whole family in motion day by day. Her watchfulness and her eyes did not remain anything hidden. If something had caught her attention nothing could have been able to stop her. Although Tara's ancestors originated at kennels prefering show dogs of the majority, her hunting instinct had been pronounced very early, whereby Tara clearly expressed to be able to differentiate very exactly between genuine and "replacement"-hares. Nevertheless Tara achieved the racing license during a very short time span. After a promising start in the show ring, she found her real tasks increasingly outside the showring and the racetrack. Tara prefered raving on free fields together with Elia to other activities at any time. Unfortunately, Tara left me in 2001 much too soon. Since then it became very quiet in the house.
